For the purposes of GP Recruitment, Scotland is considered a single Deanery. As you might imagine, the size and geography of Scotland offers the opportunity for a variety of high quality training experiences. We can offer tailored rural training programmes, inner city hospital and practice placements with a mixture of three and four year rotations, and a number of innovative community based posts.
Training of GPs in Scotland is the responsibility of NHS Education for Scotland (NES) and is delivered by enthusiastic teams of medical and administrative staff based in four geographical Deaneries:
- East of Scotland
- North of Scotland
- South East Scotland
- West of Scotland
Scotland has had a consistently high success rate in MRCGP examinations and is highly rated by trainees in the GMC survey. Our Educational Supervisors are experienced, committed and dedicated to helping you get the most out of your time with us.
Please see our online brochure (pdf) for more information.
And before you make a final decision, consider some of the other things that make Scotland different.
The Scottish Government has responsibility for the delivery of the NHS in Scotland. Our structures are therefore different to those in the rest of the UK. There are no plans to introduce a commissioning structure in Scotland. Instead we have unified Health Boards, combining primary and secondary care services. Not to mention free prescriptions and eye checks.
Scotland has spectacular mountain scenery and can offer fantastic opportunities for hill walking, mountain biking, climbing, and skiing. We have a coastline longer than the rest of the UK put together with dramatic seascapes and sandy beaches. Perfect for sailing, surfing and kayaking – or just a leisurely walk. We have bustling cosmopolitan cities boasting extensive shopping, culture and nightlife; and quiet villages and glens for the perfect getaway. Scotland has an extensive transport system including local buses, national railways and international airports. Living in Scotland gives you excellent access the rest of the UK and beyond.
We look forward to welcoming you and we are sure you will want to stay!
