The Defence Postgraduate Medical Deanery (DPMD) forms part of the Joint Forces Command and is based at Whittington Barracks, Lichfield.
Joint Forces CommandThe structure of DPMD is based upon the NHS Deanery model and retains strong links with both the University of Birmingham and the West Midlands Deanery. Before applying for training within DPMD as a GP, you must be a serving member of the Armed Forces.
The Department of General Practice is led by the Director of Postgraduate General Practice Education (DPGPE) whose principal responsibility within DPMD is the management of Vocational Training for General Practice (GPVT). The DPGPE, who is also the Defence Specialty Adviser in General Practice to the Surgeon General, is assisted by 3 Deputy Directors each of whom is also the single Service Adviser in General Practice within their respective Service.
The remainder of the team is made up of Associate Advisers and Course Organizers across the single Services, each of whom has specific responsibilities within GP postgraduate education.
