Coronavirus (COVID-19) - Induction and Refresher Schemes

For new applications: The HEE Induction and Refresher scheme continues to accept new applications for all routes. Please contact the National Recruitment Office in the normal way to register here. However, there may be a delay before your application can be progressed.

For UK returning GPs: If you are a returning UK GP and you have capacity and wish to offer your support to the COVID-19 response service working within primary care, in addition to GMC registration you will need to be reincluded on the England Medical Performers List. Please find more information here.

For current I&R scheme doctors: After a period of suspension. the I&R Learning Needs Assessments (MCQ and Simulated Surgery) should, in most countries, be running. For MCQ, please continue to book online with Pearson Vue directly. The next sitting is in August. HEE is continuing to monitor the situation regularly to ensure safety and fairness. For the Simulated Surgery, we are developing an alternative solution to the face to face offering and will contact individuals shortly to confirm details. Thank you for your patience.

Whether you have NHS experience or not, "The NHS GP Induction and Refresher (I&R) Scheme is designed to provide a safe, supported and direct route for qualified GPs to join or return to NHS general practice".

The scheme can be tailored to meet your needs, experiences and personal commitments. Once you’ve registered for the scheme you will have access to your own dedicated account manager to guide you through the process. That’s not all, there’s more financial support too.

So if you are joining us having never worked as a NHS GP, or coming back to general practice after a break, you are welcome. Registering for the scheme means you will be joining or coming back to one of the most rewarding, challenging, flexible and diverse careers in medicine.
